Terracotta
Terracotta is Morocco's most representative color, from Sahara red earth. Marrakech is called the "Red City"—the entire old town's walls, palaces, and houses are built of red rammed earth. Founded in 1062 by the Almoravid Berber dynasty, the red earth walls are made from local soil mixed with straw and lime. At sunset from the Koutoubia minaret, Marrakech looks like a flame in the desert.
